The Grass Valley Daily Union (which eventually became The Union) for the years 1865-1885 is available online to anyone with Internet access. Now getting a sense of life in Nevada County in the mid to late 1800s is only a few clicks away! You can search across all years of the collection by news headline (e.g., "empire mine," "chinese") or category (e.g., "announcements," "legal notices," "local intelligence") that have been extracted from the daily publications or you can browse through the newspaper by year, month, and/or day. As the newspaper is stored as image files converted to PDF, the actual text is not searchable.
