OR: Download the Poll Worker Application here. In Nevada County, behind every election there are hundreds of people who ensure a smooth and proper oepration at the polling places. Their efforts play a vital part in making democracy work. Nevada County is seeking Election Officers in order to continue providing the more than 60,000 registered voters the opportunity to vote at neighborhood precincts throughout Nevada County.
A Poll Worker is a trusted position that is ideal for anyone who would like to get a first-hand look at how our system works and provide neighbors their opportunity to vote. Many Poll Workers serve year after year for the experience of being an integral part of the election process. All registered voters are welcome to join our team.
Poll Workers are classified as either Inspectors or Judges. Every precinct board is comprised of one Inspector and at least two Judges.
Pollworker Requirements Poll Workers should have the ability to follow detailed instructions accurately, stamina for a long work day, and the talent to deal with people tactfully and patiently. Poll Workers must be registered voters. If you feel you possess these qualities and would enjoy serving on a Precinct Board, please complete the

Job Descriptions and Pay Rates Inspector (person in charge of the polling place)
Pay: $100.00
Inspectors work under the guidance of the County Clerk.
Duties:
- Attend a training class prior to each election. Attendance is mandatory by state law.
- Inspect polling place prior to each election.
- Arrange for entry to polling place by 6:15 AM election morning.
- Check to see that all supplies have been received and that voting booths are set up by the Monday before the election. Precinct supplies are provided by the Elections Office. Booths are delivered and set up by community service organizations hired by the Elections Office.
- Contact judges the day before the election to remind them to report by 6:15 AM election morning.
- Assign tasks, arrange breaks, lunch and dinner times at the polling place using the following guidelines:
- Majority of board members must be present at all times.
- All board members shall be present at 8 p.m. when polls close and stay until closing procedures are completed.
- Oversee the closing of the polls; account for voted and unvoted ballots. Deliver ballots and supplies to the Elections Office or Regional Check-in Center after polls close. By law, the Inspector and at least one Judge must accompany the ballots.
Judge Pay: $80.00
Judges work under the direction of the Precinct Board Inspector.
Duties:
- Attend a training class prior to each election--not required, but recommended.
- Arrive at the polling place no later than 6:15 a.m. election morning.
- Perform tasks assigned by the Inspector.
- Assist with closing the polls, accounting for voted and unvoted ballots, and prepare ballots and supplies for delivery to the Elections Office or Regional Check-in Center. One Judge must accompany Inspector when s/he delivers ballots.
