Benefit Information

Download the On-Screen Employment Application Form. A 770Kb Adobe Acrobat file.

Smaller version (for filling out by hand). A 68Kb Adobe Acrobat file.

As a convenience for applicants, the Human Resources/Personnel Department has made our Employment Application available for download. You may download and print the form, fill it out by hand or using a typewriter. OR you may fill out the form right on your screen. You will need a current version of the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print the form; you can get Adobe Acrobat directly from the Adobe Website.

PLEASE NOTE that, although the form utilizes the universal Adobe Acrobat PDF format, some computer/printer systems may not be able to print the form properly. We highly recommend that you try printing the blank form immediately after downloading and opening it on your computer, before you spend a lot of time filling it out. The Nevada County Human Resources Department is not responsible for the success of your Application due to any difficulties with our online form. If you need us to mail you a form, just call us at 530-265-1225 and we will be pleased to send one to you.

Also, please note that although the Adobe Acrobat Reader will permit you to save the blank form to your hard disk (so you need not be connected to the Internet while you fill it out), it does NOT allow you to save your work; you must print the form before closing the program. (This restriction does not apply if you have access to the full retail version of Adobe Acrobat.)

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE ON-SCREEN FORM
  1. After you download the form, it will probably open automatically, either in your browser or in a new Adobe Acrobat window. We suggest you immediately save the blank form to your Desktop (or to a folder where you?ll be able to find it later) by clicking FILE, then SAVE.
  2. We also suggest that you immediately PRINT the form, both so you can confirm that your computer and printer will do this successfully, and so you have a complete paper copy to which you can refer.
  3. You will probably want to enlarge the form so you can read it more easily. Use the magnification tool on the Acrobat tool bar, or just press CONTROL-+ on your keyboard. (That is, hold down the CTRL key while you press the "+" key.)
  4. Scroll the screen so you can see the DATE field in the upper left corner of the Application. Move your mouse over this field so that the cursor changes from the hand to an I-bar. Click the left mouse button, and you should get a blinking cursor in that field.
  5. Type the date, and hit the TAB key. Acrobat will display the date and advance the cursor to the next field ("Position Applying For"). Type the name of the position in there, and hit TAB again to move to the LAST NAME field.
  6. Continue that pattern of typing and hitting TAB all the way through the form. You may also use SHIFT-TAB to back up to the previous field, or you may use your mouse to move to any field at any time by just pointing at a field and clicking the left button.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR CERTAIN FIELDS AND FIELD TYPES
  • In telephone numbers, the Area Code and phone number are treated as two separate fields. (So, type the Area Code and then hit TAB to type the rest of the number.)
  • For Yes/No fields, TAB to the desired box and type an "X".
  • In some fields, the text will shrink as you type to fit in the space. (The College/University spaces are an example.) If your typing causes some text to scroll out of the box, it will be necessary to abbreviate. If this is not practical, then instead type "See #23" in the box and type your information in the open-ended Question 23 space on the second page of the form.
  • The JOB DUTIES boxes in the EXPERIENCE section are multiple-line fields. Typing beyond the end of the line will automatically word wrap the text. Once again, you can not go beyond the capacity of the field. If you need more space, use Question 23.
  • Question 23 will accept 3 lines of text.
  • Don't forget to sign and date the form, and to add any required additional documentation. Refer to the official Job Announcement for information.
