How to prepare your recyclables (single stream makes it easy!) and what can’t be put in the bin.

How to Prepare Recyclables
  • Place shredded paper in paper bags (and staple shut)
  • Rinse containers of liquids and solids
  • Remove lids/caps (for recycling)
  • No need to remove labels
  • Tissues, paper towels, cardboard, and paper must be dry and free of food debris
  • Aerosol cans must be empty of non-toxic contents
What’s NOT Acceptable at Curbside/Recycling Centers/Transfer Stations
Many items continue to be non-recyclable. Following is a detailed list.
Paper
  • Tyvek (express-mail envelopes)
  • Paper products with food on them
  • Envelopes with bubble-wrap inside

Plastic
  • Unnumbered plastics
  • Cereal box liners
  • Plastic furniture
  • Plastic toys
  • Plastic pipe
  • Styrofoam
  • Plastic bags

Glass
  • Window/auto glass
  • Mirrors
  • Cookware/bake ware
  • Ceramic items
  • Drink glasses

Other
  • Porcelain
  • Waxy milk & juice cartons
  • Aseptic containers (milk/soy/rice milk/juice)
  • Coat hangers (take back to dry cleaners or donate to thrift stores)
  • Containers used for the storage of household hazardous waste
  • Empty paint cans
  • Empty camp propane canisters
