NEVADA COUNTY LAW LIBRARY

The Nevada County Law Library is the primary depository of legal reference materials for the County of Nevada, and provides open access of these resources to all members of the community.

The Law Library is maintained by a seven member Board of Trustees.  Four Nevada County Superior Court Judges, or their designated representatives, serve a year term as Trustees.  The Nevada County Board of Supervisors appoints a representative for the Chair of the Board and 2 additional Trustees yearly.  For a listing of current board members contact the law library.

Located in Nevada City on the first floor of the Nevada County Courthouse, the Law Library collection contains approximately 6,000 volumes of reference materials, including: Nolo Press self-help law books, the Nevada County Codes, California Code, State and Federal Supreme and Appellate court reports,
and the Municipal Codes of Grass Valley, Nevada City, and Truckee.

Computer stations are available.  Electronic legal resources include Westlaw Patron Access, legal research websites, Judicial Council forms, legal pleadings and word processing. Computer stations are available for Judicial Council forms, legal pleadings, and word processing.

The Nevada County Superior Court's Public Law Center is located within the Law Library. This award winning self-help center provides legal information on court procedures, form packets with instructions, and alternatives to civil litigation, such as mediation. Areas of law include: Adoption, Guardianship, Name Change, Unlawful Detainer (Eviction), Civil Harassment, Modification of Probation, and Traffic. The Public Law Center is also the county's Small Claim Advisor. Call (530) 470-2594 for more information.

A coin-operated copy machine is available at the Law Library for 10¢ a page, and an electric typewriter is also on-site for use.

The Law Library is open 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday; closed weekends and holidays. The Law Librarian is available 9:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. The telephone/fax number is (530) 265-2918. E-mail: Law.Library@nevadacountycourts.com.

The Board of Trustees of the Nevada County Law Library meets on the second Wednesday of every month, 12:00 noon - 1:00 p.m., in the Law Library Conference Room - the public is invited to attend.
