Paratransit Services

Nevada County administers a door-to-door paratransit service for persons with disabilities for trips within the Grass Valley/Nevada City area and nearby communities. The service is provided by Gold Country Telecare, a private non-profit organization, under a contract with the County of Nevada. All paratransit vehicles are equipped with wheelchair lifts and other accessibility features.

Service Area

The paratransit service area includes the Grass Valley/Nevada City, Penn Valley, Lake Wildwood, and other local areas. Download our Paratransit Service Area Map.

Eligibility

Pursuant to the federal Americans with Disabilities Act of 1989 (ADA), paratransit service eligibility is limited to persons who have physical or mental disabilities which limit their use of regular Gold Country Stage bus service without special assistance. In order to become eligible for paratransit service, you must submit a Request for Certification of ADA Paratransit Eligibility. (Click title to download.) The application form must be filled out completely and sent to the Transit Services Division at 950 Maidu Avenue, Nevada City, California, 95959.

Days and Hours of Service

Paratransit service is provided Monday through Friday between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm.  There is no evening service. No service is provided on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, Martin Luther King's Birthday, Presidents Day, Veterans Day and the day after Thanksgiving.

Fares

The basic fare for paratansit service is $2.00 per one-way trip. For longer trips to and from outlying areas, the fare is $4.00. The Telecare dispatcher will let you know what the fare is for your trip at the time you make your reservation.

Reservations

Reservations for paratransit trips must be made at least 24 hours in advance, and may be made up to 14 days in advance of the trip. Trip reservations can be made by calling Gold Country Telecare at 272-1710. You will be asked to make a reservation for the return trip at the same time you make your original reservation.
