Education is key!

How to recognize a lab:

Labs are found in rural, suburban, and urban areas, in all kinds of places. Signs of a tab may include:
Strong or unusual chemical odors (sometimes described as similar to dirty socks or urine), lab equipment, fortification of houses or outbuildings (such as covered windows or reinforced doors), chemical cans or drums in the yard, high fences with no animals, auto or foot traffic at all hours.
Suspect a lab?
Leave at once. Immediately contact law enforcement of your suspicions (911), and notify others who may be in immediate danger. Remember: BE ALERT, AWARE, CAREFUL, OBSERVANT, & SAFE. Never investigate on your own.
Meth & Environmental Hazards in Nevada County
Our health and environment are threatened by discarded chemicals used to produce meth. This toxic waste and garbage is often dumped in waterways, along highways, down drains, or near schools.
Risks of Explosion

Meth labs contain a mix of volatile chemicals and carcinogens, often in poorly ventilated areas. This creates a hazardous and unstable environment Cookers' are often unaware or indifferent to dangers posed by toxic chemicals involved in the production of meth.

Explosions can be caused by knocking over the wrong container, lighting a cigarette, switching on electrical equipment, or 'over cooking'.

Other Lab Dangers:
In raw form or after they've been 'cooked', touching meth chemicals, breathing fumes can cause sickness, permanent injury or death.

Environmental Damage
Dumping toxic meth waste and garbage impacts everyone. Our health and environment is threatened. Toxic waste pollutes the soil and water and poisons wildlife. Unsightly dump sites can contaminate and damage quality of life. Clean up is expensive and can take many days.
LOCAL RECOVERY RESOURCES
Our county offers help to recover from chronic meth use. Contact Community Recovery Resources to learn more.
Those arrested for meth related nonviolent offenses have programs such as Prop 36, which provide opportunities for long term treatment and show lower rates of relapse.
Studies show the cost of arrest, trial and incarceration is far more expensive, and creates a greater revolving door into prison, than treatment, consistent aftercare and support.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
Don't try meth, not even once.
Educate yourself to the danger of using meth, and the danger to people and our environment through the process of making meth in local labs or supporting criminal cartels. Remember, knowledge is power.
