Nevada County residents now have a place to take their empty propane tanks that they do not want refilled. Propane tanks 5 to 25 gallon are accepted for a $10 fee at the McCourtney Road Transfer Station Household Hazardous Waste Facility. The facility is open Wednesday through Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The tanks will then be refurbished off site or sent to a metal recycler.
If you wish to refill tanks, they may be traded for a full tank at Blue Rhino and other tank exchange kiosks at gas stations, grocery stores and other locations throughout Nevada County. You’ll pay a reduced price when trading an empty tank for a full tank. For a complete list of sites, visit
www.NevadaCountyRecycles.com. Small camping-style cylinders may be brought to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility for no charge.
Propane tanks are accepted at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility as well as unknown chemicals, paints and paint-related products, household cleaners, pesticides, contaminated motor oil and old gasoline. For a complete list of what is accepted, visit
www.NevadaCountyRecycles.com or look in the AT&T Real Yellow Pages, under ‘R’.
